Howdy freeholders!
Today I’m going to give you an introduction to a series of blog posts I’ve been inspired to write about my entire writing process from start to finish. Some of you (yeah, I’m looking at you two sitting in the back) may remember that I did a Saturday Snippet on this topic some time ago, which gave a brief introduction to my process.
Well, I’ve had people ask me for more details, and come to think of it, when I was starting out in this business, I was anxious to find all the information I could on everything about writing from idea creation to title and character creation, how to write, what to write, when to write, how to edit…all that stuff. So, I figure this is a way of paying it forward.
Who knows? Maybe someday, some young writer out there — or more experienced person, no age discrimination here! — will stumble across this humble blog post and feel inspired to take up pen and paper — or keyboard, or microphone — and stop procrastinating and get their words down.
So, that’s what it’s going to be. I’ll take about five minutes and dictate my thoughts in each one of these segments, including coming up with ideas, characters, and plot — and how I prepare to write. I’ll then move on to the actual writing process, the editing process, the publishing process, and conclude with how I market my books.
But first a caveat: I’m not here to tell you exactly how to do things. I’m not here to say my way is the best way. I’m certainly not here to brag about how great a writer I am. I’m hoping that the information I provide will at least offer a bit of understanding and perhaps entertainment for my readers, while at the same time, help someone with questions who may be just starting out on this grand journey of writing.
I am by no means espousing that I am an expert at this and that you should follow my method and only do what I do. In the next few posts I’m just going to tell you what I do, and that it works for me. My processes may not work for you, and that’s okay. Maybe you can find some tidbit in there that will work for you.
If that’s the case, more power to you, and I wish you luck!
More importantly, if you do find something useful in any of these upcoming blog posts, drop me a line and say so! I’d love to hear your story! As always, you can reach me at marcus@freeholderpress.com.
Now that we’ve got the basics down about what this little series of posts is going to be about, I’ll step away from the microphone, gather my thoughts, and start dictating the first post, will be about my writing supplies.
That about does it for this week, so as always, keep your heads down and your powder dry my friends, for we live in interesting times.
